Near the Granite Quarry in Rowan County stands a house made of native stone built by Michael Braun in 1766. Although Michael did in 1808, his family stayed in the house until 1904 when it was sold. In 1966 the house was sold to The Rowan Museum. As museum workers studied the house, they found old diaries from the Brauns. What lay inside shocked them, for the diaries mention a ghost.
It seems the ghost would rise out of the creek behind the house when someone was about to die. How the ghost looked would depend on how the dying person had lived their life. If they were a good person who'd lived a good life, the ghost would be white or pale. If they were a bad person, the ghost would be a dark grey or black. Obviously, the color of the ghost indicated where you were to spend eternity.
Near the house is a cemetery where Michael Braun and some of his family are buried. Some residents near the area claim they have seen balls of light rise and fall in the cemetery at night. I wonder if it's the ghosts of those who did not live good lives trying to ascend to heaven.

We are starting a haunted forest in the Raleigh/Durham area, www.raleighhautedhouse.com, and would love to find out more about local stories such as this one. Anyway, we can get some more information.
My son and I were looking at this photo of the Braun Stone House and he asked me "who is in the doorway?"I looked again and once more and in fact I too see a gentleman with a striped tie holding hands with a child. The figures are centered with the door and can be distinguished quite easily if you are looking for it but once it's been seen it can't be unseen.
Thanks for the update Jason! I stop by every week to check out the page! Please keep them coming! -Amanda
this is the best picture i ever looked at
My parents were caretakers for the Braun Stone House in the 1970's. One time when my mom's family was visiting from Washington State, My Aunt thought she saw a light from the Stone House. Do I believe in ghost? Yes. Do I believe the Stone House was haunted? Most likely.
I just moved to Rowan County and have always been interested in local ghost stories and older houses. Is there any way to go and visit the house, if so please email me at Southernbrothers01@yahoo.com. I would be very respectful of the house.

I would like to see the photo. I do not see it on here but that might because I'm using my phone and not an actual computer. Please email it to me. My boyfriend and I are looking for places to do some ghost investigations. We live in Wilkes county.
