Little Red Man
The ghost of the Little Red Man has it's beginnings in the town of Salem, NC on March 26, 1786. Andreas Kremser was helping to dig out a basement at the 'Brothers House', a home for the unwed men in the community, when there was a cave in. Kremser, who was working on his knees at the time, was crushed by the falling soil.
His fellow brothers quickly dug him out, but the damage was already done. While conscious when pulled from his would be grave, he died soon after from his injuries. It was then, that the creepy happenings of the brothers house began. Noises like that of the tapping of a shoemakers hammer (Kremsers trade) and footsteps in the hall were heard in the night along with the vision of a short person in a red cape resembling the one Kremser was wearing the night he died.
As the years passed, the house changed hands and eventually became a rest home of sorts. A young girl who visited her grandmother there often once reported seeing the Little Red Man beckoning her with his finger to come play. Was this the ghost of Kremser or the little girls active imagination?
Once, two gentlemen were being shown around the house when they came face to face with the ghost. Agreeing to catch the red caped man they lunged for him only to catch nothing but air with the Little Red Man grinning at the from the door.
Sadly the little red man doesn't appear at the house anymore. Legend says that a preacher once visited the house and upon hearing the story claimed to be able to get rid of the ghost. After invoking the holy trinity he spoke the words "Little Red Man, go to rest!" Some people are glad the Little Red Man can finally rest. Others still are sad to see him go.
