Early some mornings on what the locals call 'Sanderling Beach' near Duck, North Carolina you can hear the distinct sound of someone screaming 'shark'. The sound is so clear that it causes people to run to the shore to give aid or try to kill the predator. They arrive to find only the waves greet them.
On several occasions the authorities have been called out but they too find nothing when they reach the shore. Some say the voice is the ghost of someone who died years ago still hoping in vain that help will arrive.
If you travel to Duck on your trip to the Outer Banks, keep an ear open for the 'Screamer of Sanderling Beach', but keep in mind that you are far to late to help that soul who calls out.
